Dislocation dynamics: from microscopic models to macroscopic crystal plasticity

In this paper we study the connection between four models describing dislocation dynamics: a generalized 2D FrenkelKontorova model at the atomic level, the Peierls-Nabarro model, the discrete dislocation dynamics and a macroscopic model with dislocation densities. We show how each model can be deduced from the previous one at a smaller scale. AMS subject classifications: 35B27, 35F20, 45K05, 47...

Nonperturbative anharmonic phenomena in crystal lattice dynamics

Slow dynamics of energy transfer between different phonon modes under the resonance conditions is considered. It may result in new effects in the inelastic and quasielastic neutron scattering spectra.

Fluctuation phenomena in crystal plasticity - a continuum model

On microscopic and mesoscopic scales, plastic flow of crystals is characterized by large intrinsic fluctuations. Deformation by crystallographic slip occurs in a sequence of intermittent bursts (’slip avalanches’) with power-law size distribution. In the spatial domain, these avalanches produce characteristic deformation patterns in the form of slip lines and slip bands which exhibit longrange ...

Macroscopic Quantum Phenomena from the Correlation, Coupling and Criticality Perspectives

In this sequel paper we explore how macroscopic quantum phenomena can be measured or understood from the behavior of quantum correlations which exist in a quantum system of many particles or components and how the interaction strengths change with energy or scale, under ordinary situations and when the system is near its critical point. We use the nPI (master) effective action related to the Bo...
